Glimpses of glory
‘The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes…’ (John 1:14, The Message)

Christmas reminds us that Jesus is present with us in our communities and when we share God’s love in words and action, people catch a glimpse of his glory. Isn’t it amazing that Jesus prays for us, that we would have the same glory that God gave him (John 17:22). And in that same prayer he prays that we will be united.

Throughout this year we have been thrilled to hear how churches are working together, serving communities, and talking about Jesus. The church leaders I talk to across the country have a sense that we are moving into a new season. God seems to be prompting people to believe that now is time to reap what we’ve sown. Regional groups of churches are preparing for mission together in 2018 – watch the new video from Jonny GIos showing how churches in Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire are working together under the banner of HOPE Community. We are believing that God can do more than we ask or imagine; that the church will grow significantly as a result of all we do together in 2018. As we celebrate Jesus’ birth this Christmas let’s dream about new ways to bring God’s glory into our neighbourhoods.

Video HOPE Community launched in North West
The past year has seen the churches in Cumbria working at the heart of their community helping people to recover from the floods that wrecked homes last winter. One of HOPE’s practitioners Rev Jonny Gios, who has been the Community Worker for Sandylands Methodist Church, was one of those from Cumbria recognised at a Flood Heroes’ reception in 10 Downing Street. In the New Year Jonny starts work with a newly launched charity called Hope Community to be launched on 18 February 2017. Hope Community is a regional expression of HOPE and will be working in the North West of England putting the national HOPE values into practice across the region. How will churches in your area work together in 2018 using words and action make Jesus known?
