Food Parcels

In a nutshell
A similar (to Glasgow) project was run in Birmingham where, as one of many acts of kindness, a team of one hundred volunteers from a number of local churches delivered 1,000 parcels of essential food items to the Ladywood estate which has been highlighted as ‘the epicentre of child poverty in the UK’. Patricia Hoskins who co-ordinated the project said that ‘Many families in Ladywood will go without at Christmas. Our aim was to make a real difference in an area of great need and give people the opportunity to do a practical act of kindness in this season of goodwill.’
The churches also held a free outdoor community Christmas Carols evening lead by the Agape Gospel Choir, BBC West Midlands presenter Nikki Tapper switched on the Christmas lights of an 18-foot Tree of HOPE donated by the projects, and people were given the opportunity to write their hopes, dreams and prayers on cards which hung on the tree.
